Three SJ-O wrestlers qualify for Clinton Sectional

Three St. Joseph-Ogden wrestlers finished in the top three in their weight classes on Saturday (Feb. 4) at the LeRoy Class 1A Regional and qualified for the upcoming Clinton Sectional.
The Spartans’ Holden Brazelton won the 132-pound weight class. His two tournament wins included one pin and one technical fall.
Brazelton has a team-best 42-2 record for the season.
SJ-O teammates who kept their seasons alive by finishing in third place were Hunter Ketchum (182 pounds) and Owen Birt (220 pounds).
Birt’s 37-8 season mark is the team’s second-best record.
They each were 3-1 for the day and registered three pins.
Three other squad members went 2-2 for the day and ended in fourth. They are sectional alternates and will be added to the field if one of the top three placers in their weight class is unable to compete.
The fourth-place finishers were Jackson Walsh (106 pounds), Emmitt Holt (113 pounds) and Coy Hayes (152 pounds). Walsh secured two pins. Holt and Hayes each collected one pin.
Holt reached the 30-win mark for the season at the regional. He is 30-9.
Five other SJ-O grapplers won at least one match at the regional.
Going 2-2 for the day were Davin Alverez (145 pounds) and Peyton Sarver (195 pounds). Alverez registered two pins and Sarver pinned one foe.
Finishing their seasons with 1-2 records at the regional were Landon Butts (138 pounds), Carson Sarnecki (170 pounds) and Kyle Meccoli (285 pounds). Sarnecki and Meccoli both recorded one pin.
For the day, SJ-O wrestlers had a composite 21-24 record with 16 of the wins by pin and one by technical fall.
SJ-O ends the season with an 18-15 record in dual meets.
