Unity outlasts St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball
By Fred Kroner
St. Joseph-Ogden’s six-game winning streak in girls’ basketball was snapped on Thursday (Feb. 2) in a heartbreaking 47-46 loss at Tolono Unity.
SJ-O rallied in the final quarter to cut a 35-29 deficit to the final margin.
Neither team shot free throws effectively. SJ-O was 3-for-10 from the line and Unity was 4-for-11.
Addy Martinie totaled 23 points to lead all players. SJ-O teammates Taylor Hug (nine points) and Addison Frick (eight points) were other offensive cogs.
Martinie’s point total tied the team’s high for the season. Frick had a 23-point game in December.
Hug continues to be the Spartans’ three-point marksman. All three of her baskets came from beyond the arc. Of her last 19 field goals, 18 have been three-pointers.
For the season, Hug has drained 59 three-point shots.
SJ-O (13-14) returns to action on Monday (Feb. 6) at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
