Martinie leads SJ-O to win at PBL

Addy Martinie scored 13 points on Monday (Feb. 6) as St. Joseph-Ogden’s girls’ basketball team captured a 39-23 victory at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
Martinie attempted the only two free throws for SJ-O in the final quarter and made one. PBL had 23 free throw attempts in the Illini Prairie Conference game.
Addison Frick seconded Martinie with 11 points. Addie Seggebruch contributed six points, Taylor Hug hit five points and Kaytlyn Baker finished with four points.
With a 6-3 record in Illini Prairie Conference games, SJ-O ended in a two-way tie for third-place in the 10-school league.
On Wednesday (Feb. 8), SJ-O dropped its home finale to Peotone, 46-32.
The visitors jumped into a 15-8 lead after one quarter, but the Spartans trimmed the deficit to 21-17 at halftime.
Martinie and Taylor Hug each netted nine points for SJ-O. Frick scored seven points and Katie Ericksen nailed a three-point shot.
SJ-O (14-15 overall) will enter Class 2A regional tournament play on Monday (Feb. 13) with a semifinal game at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
The top-seeded Spartans will face either No. 7 seed GCMS or No. 9 seed Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, who play each other on Saturday (Feb. 11).
