Oakwood girls’ basketball wins last regular season game

Addie Wright scored 21 points on Monday (Feb. 6) as the Oakwood girls’ basketball team concluded the regular season with a 67-17 Vermilion Valley Conference win at home over Schlarman Academy.
The Comets zoomed into a 26-2 lead after one quarter. The early scoring catalysts were Kalie Tison with nine first-quarter points, Wright with five, Jaydah Arrowsmith with four and Cherokee Hanner with four.
By game’s end, Arrowsmith finished with 12 points. Hanner wound up with eight points.
Oakwood’s halftime lead was 48-4.
The Comets (16-15) return to action in a first-round Class 2A regional semifinal tournament game on Monday (Feb. 13) at Momence against fifth-seeded Iroquois West.
Oakwood earned the No. 3 regional seed.
Oakwood finishes 8-4 in VVC games and is in third place. Only Salt Fork (11-0) and Watseka (8-3) have better VVC records, but each has one league game yet to be played.
