Brazelton advances from Clinton Class 1A Sectional

St. Joseph-Ogden sophomore wrestler Holden Brazelton won the 132-pound weight class on Saturday (Feb. 11) at the Clinton Class 1A Sectional Wrestling Tournament and qualified for the three-day state meet.
Brazelton (45-2 season record) posted three dominant wins at the sectional. He opened with a 16-0 victory and followed with a pin in 3 minutes and 14 seconds in the semifinals.
He held his finals opponent scoreless in a 7-0 victory.
The three-day state meet begins on Thursday (Feb. 16) at the State Farm Center.
SJ-O had one other sectional participant. Senior Owen Birt (220 pounds did not advance and finished his season with a 37-10 record.
St. Joseph-Ogden Girls’ Wrestling
Two of the three St. Joseph-Ogden entries in the Peoria Richwoods girls’ wrestling sectional tournament on Saturday (Feb. 11) won matches.
Sophomore Lexi Wirth (130 pounds) posted a 5-2 tournament record and was one win away from qualifying for state. She earned three pins and one win by technical fall.
The Spartans’ other sectional competitors were Maddie Wells (120 pounds) and Karleigh Spain (126 pounds). Wells was 2-2 at the sectional with two pins.
SJ-O placed 25th in the 55-school field with 22 ½ points.
