Oakwood to play for first Regional title since 2017

Oakwood’s girls’ basketball team recovered from an 11-point halftime deficit on Monday (Feb. 13) to claim a berth in the IHSA Class 2A regional championship game at Momence.

The third-seeded Comets ousted fifth-seeded Iroquois West, 46-43, in a semifinal game and will face second-seeded Kankakee Bishop McNamara in the Thursday (Feb. 16) 7 p.m. championship game.

Jaydah Arrowsmith scored a game-high and season-high 24 points against Iroquois West, which led 35-24 at intermission.

Addie Wright contributed 13 points and Caydence Vermillion notched six points.

Arrowsmith scored 10 of her points in the final quarter. The Comets trailed, 38-35, entering the last stanza.

Oakwood has a 17-15 season record. The Comets are seeking their first regional championship since 2017.
