Spartans win regular season final with win over PBL

Three St. Joseph-Ogden seniors provided a spark on Tuesday (Feb. 14) as the Spartans completed the boys’ basketball regular season with a Senior Night 65-32 win at home over Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
The three SJ-O seniors – McGwire Atwood, Maddux Carter and Ty Pence – all played between 14 and 20 minutes.
Pence scored a game-high 29 points and nailed a season-high seven three-point shots. Atwood hauled down a team-best five rebounds. Carter scored four points and was one of five Spartans to collect three-pointers.
Others, besides Pence, were Tanner Jacob, Kendrick Johnson and Tanner Siems.
Siems totaled 11 points. Atwood tallied seven points. Logan Smith distributed eight assists.
SJ-O (25-4) carries an 11-game winning streak into postseason play. The second-seeded Spartans will play in an IHSA Class 2A regional semifinal game at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Wednesday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m.
SJ-O will play the winner of a Saturday (Feb. 18) game between seventh-seeded Oakwood and 10th-seeded Hoopeston Area.
