Kankakee Bishop McNamara defeats Oakwood in Class 2A Regional Championship game

Oakwood fell short in the championship game of the IHSA Class 2A girls’ basketball regional to Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 50-14, on Thursday (Feb. 16).

McNamara led, 13-2, after one quarter and 27-6 at halftime.

The Comets were led by Jaydah Arrowsmith and Addie Wright, each with four points. Bella Bradford, Cherokee Hanner and Caydence Vermillion all tallied two points.

Bradford converted both of the team’s free throw attempts.

Oakwood finishes the season with a 17-16 record.

Wright was the team’s top scorer in 20 games. Arrowsmith led – or shared the team-lead – in 10 games. Nikita Taylor was the leader in three games and Hanner was tops in two games.

Wright posted the team’s top scoring performance (26 points), followed by Arrowsmith (24 points). In all, Wright produced six 20-point games.

For her career, Wright wound up with 1,181 points. As a senior, she averaged 13.0 points per game and had 20 double-figure games.

She also led the team in free throw accuracy (minimum 10 attempts) with 59.5 percent. Also hitting more than half of her free throws was Arrowsmith (51.4 percent).

Arrowsmith was the team’s top three-point marksman. She hit 23 three-pointers.
