Spartans win Regional title

Taylor Hug hit a game-high 15 points and the St. Joseph-Ogden defense yielded just two first-quarter points on Thursday (Feb. 16) as the Spartans claimed a Class 2A girls’ basketball regional crown with a 47-26 win over Hoopeston Area at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.

SJ-O led 10-2, after one quarter and 24-6 at halftime.

Addy Martinie totaled 11 points and Addison Frick wound up with nine points. Finishing with six points apiece were Kaytlyn Baker and April Seggebruch.

SJ-O (16-15) has won nine of its last 11 games and returns to action in the Coal City Sectional on Tuesday (Feb. 21) against Peotone.
