Panther volleyball sweeps three wins
By Fred Kroner
The seventh-grade St. Joseph volleyball team earned three consecutive two-set sweeps last week. The first two matches were at home.
The Panthers topped Judah Christian, 25-17, 25-10, and beat Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 26-24, 25-20.
On Thursday (Feb. 16), St. Joseph won in Monticello, 25-19, 25-23. Megan Kearney served a string of seven points in a row to provide the Panthers an 18-8 first-set lead.
In the second set, the Panthers fell behind early, 7-1. A four-serve run by Ashlee Jannusch sparked the comeback.
“I am happy with how this team handled some adjustments in our lineup and service order due to a sick teammate,” St. Joseph coach Jill Lubinski said. “Several players on this team are versatile enough to play in multiple spots on the court.
“This will certainly contribute to the team’s continued success in the years to come.”
The seventh-graders are 14-2 and return to action on Thursday (Feb. 23) at Georgetown Mary Miller.
