Oakwood’s basketball team season comes to an end

The Oakwood boys’ basketball team stayed with state-ranked St. Joseph-Ogden for a quarter on Wednesday (Feb. 22) in a Class 2A regional semifinal game at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin before dropping a 73-36 decision.
The SJ-O lead after one quarter was 26-18.
Brody Taflinger led the Comets with 10 points. Tanner Pichon and Josh Ruch each added seven points. Dalton Hobick scored five points, Alec Harrison had four points and Jackson Dudley ended with three points.
Oakwood finishes the season with a 23-10 overall record.
Just three squad members played in every game: Dudley, Harrison and Ruch.
Hobick was the team’s top scorer with a per-game average of 14.6. He had three games of 35, or more, points, including a school-record-tying 40-point outburst.
Hobick led the team in three-pointers (64) followed by Dudley (34) and Taflinger (24).
Pichon was the team’s other double-digit scorer, finishing with an 11.3 per-game average. He led the team in free throw accuracy, 80 percent, just ahead of Hobick’s 79.2 percent. Taflinger made 71.2 percent of his free throw attempts.
Taflinger (9.5 per-game average) and Harrison (8.9 per-game average) were the team’s other top scorers.
Harrison’s top-scoring game was 27 points. Pichon’s top-scoring game was 21 points. Taflinger’s best game was 20 points. Dudley and Ruch each had 17-point games.
