Peotone eliminates SJ-O from Class 2A postseason play

Addison Frick scored 11 points for the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball team on Tuesday (Feb. 21), but the Spartans were ousted from the IHSA Class 2A postseason with a 55-39 loss to Peotone in the Coal City Sectional semifinals.
Taylor Hug and Addie Seggebruch each netted nine points. Katie Ericksen contributed five points. Ellie Ward ended with three points and Kayla Osterbur totaled two points.
Peotone built a 23-8 lead after one quarter and expanded it to 40-14 at halftime.
The Spartans finished the season with a 16-16 overall record, but won nine of their final 12 games.
Addy Martinie led – or shared – the SJ-O team in scoring in 13 games. Frick led in 12 games, Hug was tops in nine games. Seggebruch and Addie Brooks each led in one game.
Frick (10.4 per-game average), Martinie (10.0 per-game average) and Hug (8.3 per-game average) were the Spartans’ top scorers.
Frick and Martinie each had a high game of 23 points. Hug’s top single-game performance was 20 points.
Hug downed a team-best 71 three-point shots. Other team leaders from long distance were Frick (52), Martinie (33) and Kaytlyn Baker (11). Brooks had the distinction of making all of her baskets (eight) from three-point range.
The most accurate SJ-O free throw shooters (minimum of 10 attempts) were Hug (66.7 percent), Frick (65.7 percent) and Martinie (51.2 percent). The most adept Spartan at getting to the free throw line was Seggebruch (99 attempts).
