Eight Comets named to All-County Wrestling Team
By Fred Kroner
Eight of the 14 first-team selections for the Vermilion All-County wrestling team represented the Oakwood/Salt Fork program, which placed fourth in the Class 1A IHSA team-dual series.
The Comets’ first-teamers (by weight class) were: sophomore Brayden Edwards (106), freshman Tyler Huchel (113), freshman Jack Ajster (120), sophomore Pedro Rangel (126), senior Reed Pacot (145), junior Bryson Capansky (152), junior Dalton Brown (170) and sophomore Doug Myers (195).
Seven of the honored Comets won at least 30 matches, led by Pacot, the state runner-up in his weight class. He set a program record by winning 51 of 55 matches.
One other Oakwood/Salt Fork grappler was chosen for the 14-member special mention group: sophomore Carter Chambliss (!32).
The Vermilion all-conference voting exactly mirrored the all-county voting.
As a team, the Comets were 22-12 in dual meets, including wins against all-conference and county opponents.
