Mustangs to play in Class 1A state tournament

Prairieview Ogden’s seventh-grade volleyball team, the No. 3 seed in the regional tournament, hit its peak during the postseason and has qualified for the IESA Class 1A state tournament, which starts on Friday (March 10) at Clinton.
The Mustangs clinched the school’s 11th appearance in the seventh-grade tournament on Monday (March 6) by sweeping Chrisman/Scottland, 25-19, 25-9 in the sectional at Rantoul St. Malachy. Chrisman had been the No. 1 seed in its regional.
PVO won three regional matches, two against higher seeds.
The Mustangs began postseason play, also at St. Malachy, by topping sixth-seeded Schlarman Academy, 25-11, 25-22, on Saturday (Feb. 25) in the quarterfinals and then upended second-seeded St. Malachy, 25-23, 25-22, on Wednesday (March 1) in the semifinals.
In the title match on Monday (March 6), PVO took care of top-seeded Cissna Park, 25-19, 25-9.
PVO (17-8) will play in the 8:15 p.m. match on Friday (March 10) against Pontiac St. Mary’s (24-0), the lone undefeated qualifier in the Class 1A IESA field.
Meanwhile, the PVO eighth-graders have moved into the regional finals.
The Mustangs overpowered seventh-seeded Schlarman Academy, 25-18, 25-21, in the quarterfinals on Saturday (March 4) and then ousted third-seeded Buckley St. John’s, 21-25, 25-13, 25-16, on Tuesday (March 7) in the semifinals.
Second-seeded PVO will take on top-seeded Cissna Park in the title match on Thursday (March 9).
