Heritage opens track season with 3,200-m first-place finish

The Heritage 3,200-meter relay teamed up for a first-place finish on Monday (March 20) as the Hawks opened the outdoor season in a five-school boys’ track and field meet at Hoopeston Area.
Sharing the baton were Aidan Ashbrook, Joshua Stierwalt, Hunter Montgomery and Zach Ruwe. They were timed in 10 minutes, 25.18 seconds and had a 6.60-second margin of victory.
Montgomery was a top-six placer in two individual events.
He was the runner-up in the 3,200 meters (13:40.86) and ended in sixth place in the 1,600 meters (6:18.71).
Montgomery was one of two Heritage runners among the top eight in the 1,600. Stierwalt wound up in eighth place (6:38.71).
Three other Hawks secured finishes among the top seven in individual events.
Ruwe was third in the 800 meters (2:26.58). Destin Nickle was sixth in the long jump (13 feet, 8 inches) and Rylan White was seventh in the discus (92 feet, 9 inches).
Team honors were captured by Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin with 211 points. Runner-up St. Anne totaled 89 points. Heritage ended in fifth place with 26 points.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday (March 28) at Paris.
