Junior Payton Carter placed second in the girls’ Class 1A pole vault on Friday (March 24) in the Illinois Top Times unofficial state indoor track and field meet at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center.
Carter cleared 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches, a foot higher than she made a year earlier when she finished in fourth place.
SJ-O had competitors in three other events.
Senior Kaytlyn Baker ended 10th in the 60-meter hurdles, which featured 24 competitors. She was timed in 10.15 seconds.
Baker also ran a leg on the Spartans’ 12th-place 1,600-meter relay, which stopped the clock in 4:27.30. She shared the baton with Helene Jones, Carter and Madison Clampitt.
In the high jump, SJ-O’s Macy Reed-Thompson finished 16th.
SJ-O returns to action outdoors on Monday (April 3) at Salt Fork.
