In a high school baseball game where every run – by both teams – was scored in the fifth inning, Oakwood rallied to defeat visiting Champaign Centennial, 5-2, on Monday (March 27).
Grant Powell and Dalton Hobick each socked two hits for the Comets. Matthew Miller drove in two runs. Both of Hobick’s hits were doubles.
Travis Tiernan pitched all seven innings and earned the win. He scattered four hits, walked three batters and struck out seven.
On Tuesday (March 28), Oakwood was outscored at home by Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 16-5.
Tiernan and Bryson Marcinko each delivered two hits, including one double apiece. Marcinko scored two runs and Tiernan knocked in two runs. Bryson Myers also socked two hits.
Powell took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run in 1 2/3 innings. Reliever Brody Taflinger pitched two innings and registered five strikeouts.
Oakwood (3-2-1) returns to action on Thursday (March 30) at Heritage.
