Quinn Sperry wins at shot put at PBL

Oakwood sophomore Quinn Sperry won the shot put on Tuesday (April 4) in the 12-school Paxton-Buckley-Loda Invitational.
Sperry’s top toss was a personal-best 32 feet, 9 inches. She also took fifth place in the discus, also achieving a personal-best (75 feet, 3 inches).
As a team, Oakwood was sixth with 49 points. Milford was the meet champion (116 points), followed by PBL (107 points).
Two Comets, besides Sperry, recorded two top-eight finishes in individual events.
Luci Morris placed third in the long jump (13 feet, 5 inches) and eighth in the 100 meters (personal-best 15.17 seconds). Alyssa Wells ended fourth in the long jump (personal-best 3.99) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:00.02).
Other individual team leaders were Taylor Jett (sixth in the 100 meters in 14.92 seconds), Aubri Elliott (eighth in the 200 meters in a personal-best 30.42 seconds) and Mady Nicoson (eighth in the shot put, personal-best 25 feet, 5 inches.
Three Oakwood relays also fared well.
The third-place 800-meter relay featured Jett, Morris, Wells and Elliott. They were timed in 2:07.61.
Sharing the baton on the fourth-place 400-meter relay were Smoot, Morris, Jett and Elliott. They stopped the clock in 59.46 seconds.
The Comets’ 1,600-meter relay captured sixth place with a composite time of 5:23.25. The foursome consisted of Smoot, Jett, Wells and Elliott.
The other squad member registering her top mark ever was Cassie Fugate (32.80 in the 200 meters).
Oakwood will return to action on Thursday (April 6) in the Vermilion County Meet at Hoopeston Area.
