Oakwood’s baseball team raised its winning streak to six games on Monday (April 10) with an 11-1 win at home over Watseka before the streak ended on Wednesday (April 12) with a 13-3 loss at Mahomet-Seymour.
Against Watseka, Travis Tiernan twirled a six-inning four-hitter, allowing only an unearned run in the process. He walked no one and struck out nine.
He was backed by an offense that featured two hits by Bryson Marcinko and two runs batted in by both Dalton Hobick and Matthew Miller. Marcinko and Grant Powell each scored three runs. Bryson Myers also tallied two runs. Hobick and Miller each swiped three bases.
Against M-S, the Comets were held to three hits and didn’t dent the scoreboard until the sixth inning when Miller (two) and Hobick (one) drove in runs. Miller, Joshua Ruch and Brody Taflinger produced the team’s hits. Marcinko and Powell scored one run apiece.
Alec Harrison pitched four innings and took the loss. He struck out two batters.
Oakwood (9-3-1) returns to action on Friday (April 14) at Milford. M-S has an 11-2 season record.
