SJO places third at Monticello Invitational

Five individuals and two relays took home first-place finishes for the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ track and field team on Tuesday (April 11) in a four-school meet at Rantoul.
The SJ-O individual titlists were Mason Guido (1,600 meters in a personal-best 4:58.12), Kyler Swanson (110-meter high hurdles in a personal-best 18.47 seconds), Logan Smith (300-meter hurdles in a personal-best 43.54 seconds), Garrett Siems (high jump at 5 feet, 7 inches) and Brock Trimble (discus at 151 feet).
The school’s winning relays were the 400-meter unit and the 800-meter foursome.
The 400 grouping of Tyler Burch, Colin Wayland, Aidan Moberg and Jackson Greer was timed in 44.74 seconds.
The 800 pairing of Tim Blackburn-Kelley, Corbin Wells, Moberg and Siems crossed the line in 1:38.36.
Second-place finishers for the Spartans were Swanson (300 hurdles) and Kyle Meccoli (shot put).
Placing third were Holden Jones (1,600 meters), Jackson Ennis (shot put and discus) and the 1,600-meter relay team.
Runners Aden Armstrong, Wells, Guido and Wyatt Wertz shared the baton in the 1,600-meter relay.
Winding up fourth were Colton Overstreet (110-meter high hurdles) and Mitchell Wright (discus).
Champaign Central won team honors (220 ½ points). SJ-O was third with 159 points.
SJ-O will return to action on Friday (April 14) in the Monticello Invitational.
