Spartans on 3-game win streak after Acton registers second shutout of the season
By Fred Kroner
Alyssa Acton fired her second shutout of the season on Monday (April 10), outdueling University of Illinois recruit Danika Frazier as St. Joseph-Ogden edged Stanford Olympia, 2-0, at Randy Wolken Field.
In seven innings, Acton was touched for five hits. She walked one and fanned five batters.
SJ-O scored the lone run it would need in the opening inning when Shayne Immke belted a two-out triple and scored on a passed ball.
The Spartans’ second run was tallied in the fifth inning when Halle Brazelton drew the only walk issued by Frazier. Pinch-runner Timera Blackburn-Kelley stole second and then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Katharine Short, when she didn’t slow down after reaching third base.
SJ-O was held to three hits. Addy Martinie and Grace Osterbur each delivered singles.
SJ-O (8-5) has a three-game winning streak and returns to action on Thursday (April 13) at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
