Alyssa Wells and Quinn Sperry lead Comets at Unity Invitational

Alyssa Wells was the top individual placer for the Oakwood girls track and field team on Friday (April 14) at the Unity Invitational, in Tolono.
She wound up 11th in the long jump with a personal-best 13 feet, 8 inches.
Teammate Quinn Sperry secured two top-15 finishes. She captured 13th in the shot put (27 feet, 9 inches) and was 14th in the discus (72 feet, 5 inches).
Three Oakwood relays made their presence felt, including the 10th-place 800-meter foursome of Taylor Smoot, Wells, Taylor Jett and Aubri Elliott. Their collective time was 2:07.01.
Those same four runners formed the 400-meter relay, which placed 11th and was timed in 58.66 seconds.
The school’s 1,600-meter relay also ended in 11th. Those runners were Smoot, Cassie Fugate, Nikita Taylor and Elliott.
Oakwood will return to action on Friday (April 21) at the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Invitational.
