Swanson and Wayland place in two events at Monticello Invitational

Kyler Swanson and Colin Wayland were each two-event individual placers for the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ track and field team on Friday (April 14) in the 18-school Monticello Invitational.
Swanson was among the leaders in both hurdles races. He placed sixth in the 300-meter event (45.35 seconds) and ended eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles (18.32 seconds).
Wayland was the runner-up in the 200 meters – the top finish by an athlete from SJ-O in an individual event – in 23.64 seconds. He also placed eighth in the high jump at 5 feet, 7 inches.
Other individual placers among the top nine for the Spartans were Tyler Burch in the 100 meters (fourth in 11.32 seconds), Brock Trimble in the discus (fifth at 143 feet) and Aden Armstrong in the 400 meters (ninth in 56.07 seconds).
Three SJ-O relays performed well, including the second-place 1,600-meter foursome of Burch, Spencer Wilson, Logan Smith and Jackson Greer. Their combined time was 3:34.53.
The 800-meter relay took home third place in 1:32.79. Joining forces were Burch, Smith, Wayland and Greer.
The Spartans’ 400-meter relay unit of Tim Blackburn-Kelley, Wayland, Aidan Moberg and Smith were timed in 44.11 seconds and ended in fifth place.
The meet was a non-scoring event.
SJ-O will return to action on Friday (April 21) at the Unity Invitational, in Tolono.
