Haley wins 400th victory with Oakwood shutout

Connor Hale pitched a two-hit shutout on Tuesday (April 18) as the St. Joseph-Ogden baseball team blanked visiting Oakwood, 10-0, to give coach Josh Haley his 400th career victory.
Haley’s career record stands at 400-141-2 in 18 years as a head coach, the last 11 at SJ-O, where his teams have won nine consecutive regional championships. Of his wins, 307 have come with the Spartans. The first 93 were at his alma mater, Hoopeston Area.
Hale walked one batter and struck out a season-high 10 hitters.
Nolan Earley, Charles Voorhees and Braxton Waller each poked two hits. Waller drove in three runs. Jared Altenbaumer and Voorhees each crossed home plate twice.
Tanner Jacob and Andy Price both knocked three hits and batted in three runs on Monday (April 17) as SJ-O upended visiting Prairie Central, 14-4, to remain unbeaten in Illini Prairie Conference action.
The Spartans are 5-0 in IPC games and four of the games have been settled by the 10-run rules.
Against Prairie Central, Luke Landrus belted two hits. Jacob, Price, Altenbaumer, Earley and Voorhees all scored two runs.
Braxton Waller also had two RBI.
Ochs pitched three innings and picked up the win. Kendrick Johnson threw two innings of one-hit relief and recorded two strikeouts.
SJ-O (15-4 overall) returns to action on Thursday (April 20) at Pontiac.
