Oakwood baseball defeats Hoopeston Area 20-1

Travis Tiernan didn’t allow an earned run for his third consecutive outing and didn’t walk a batter for the second straight game on Monday (April 17) as he pitched Oakwood to a 20-1 win in a baseball game at home over Hoopeston Area.
Tiernan (5-0) fired a five-hitter and struck out six hitters.
He also helped himself at the plate, cracking two hits and driving in a season-high four runs.
The Oakwood onslaught was led by Dalton Hobick, who ripped a single, a double and a triple in his three at-bats. He scored three runs, had three RBI and stole two bases.
Chase Harrison also produced two hits to go with two RBI. Matthew Miller’s one hit was a home run. He generated two RBI as did Bryson Myers.
Bryson Marcinko, Miller and Cort Vermillion each scored three runs. Grant Powell and Joshua Ruch tallied two runs apiece.
Oakwood put the game away with an 11-run third inning.
On Tuesday (April 18), the Comets were shut out for the first time this season, dropping a 10-0 decision at St. Joseph-Ogden.
Oakwood was held to two hits, singles by Hobick and Brody Taflinger. Alec Harrison yielded three hits and four walks in five innings and took the loss. He struck out three batters.
The Comets (12-4-1) return to action on Thursday (April 20) at home against Seeger, Ind.
