Three home runs put Oakwood Baseball over Salt Fork

The Oakwood Comets clubbed three home runs on Friday (April 21) in a 9-1 Vermilion Valley Conference baseball victory at Salt Fork.
Knocking the ball out of the park were Dalton Hobick, Grant Powell and Joshua Ruch. Hobick was 3-for-5, scored three runs and also belted a double. Ruch, Matthew Miller and Travis Tiernan all produced two hits. Miller, Powell and Ruch all drove in two runs.
Hobick pitched six innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven. Tiernan entered for the bottom of the seventh and retired all three batters that he faced.
On Monday (April 24), Tiernan extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to his last 27 1/3 innings (covering five appearances) as Oakwood dispatched Schlarman Academy, 10-3, at home.
He pitched a seven-inning complete game, walking one and fanning four. All three Schlarman runs were unearned.
Miller, Powell and Tiernan all produced two hits. Miller and Powell knocked in two runs. Powell scored twice as did Cort Vermillion, who stole three bases.
Oakwood (14-4-1) returns to action on Tuesday (April 25) at home against North Vermillion (Ind.). The Comets are 6-0 in VVC games.
