Carter and Baker pick up wins at Monticello Invitational

Payton Carter and Kaytlyn Baker were the individual leaders for the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ track and field team on Friday (April 27) in the Monticello Lady Sage Invitational.
Carter was the runner-up in the pole vault (10 feet) and Baker took third in the 300-meter hurdles (personal-best 48.75 seconds). In the same hurdles race, teammate Ally Schmitz ran sixth (personal-best 53.73 seconds).
Schmitz placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.93 seconds).
Spartan high jumper Macy Reed-Thompson tied for fourth (4 feet, 8 inches).
SJ-O’s other top-10 individuals were Helene Jones (seventh in 400 meters in 1:04.54), Alexis Wirth (eighth in the 100 meters in 13.76 seconds), Yamilka Casanova (eighth in the triple jump at a personal-best 31 feet) and Sophia Kasper (ninth in the 400 meters in 1:08.51).
Both of the Spartans’ distance relays took fourth place.
Sharing the baton in the 1,600-meter relay were Baker, Savanna Franzen, Madison Clampitt and Helene Jones. Their combined time was 4:19.29.
The 3,200-meter relay featured Kasper, Hannah Mock, Clampitt and Franzen. Their time was 10:39.29.
SJ-O’s 800-meter relay placed 10th in 1:57.60. The relay included Carter, Wirth, Clampitt and Kasper.
Seneca was the meet champion with 120 points. Tolono Unity (97 points) was second. SJ-O placed seventh in the 18-school field with 25 points.
SJ-O will return to action on Tuesday (May 2) in the Illini Prairie Conference meet at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
