On Saturday (April 29), the Comets lost a non-conference doubleheader at Braidwood Reed Custer, 5-4 and 10-0. The losses snapped the school’s five-game winning streak.
In the first game, Reed Custer scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Oakwood pitchers Brody Taflinger and Powell combined on a five-hitter and did not allow an earned run.
Hobick stroked two hits and drove in a run, as did Taflinger.
In the nightcap, Marcinko and Matthew Miller accounted for the only Oakwood hits. Harrison pitched four innings of relief and struck out four batters.
Oakwood (17-6-1) returns to action on Monday (May 1) at home against Armstrong-Potomac. Oakwood and Westville are tied for first place in the Vermilion Valley Conference standings, each with 8-0 records.
