Spartan baseball tops Milford

Six of the eight hits clubbed by the St. Joseph-Ogden baseball team on Wednesday (May 3) went for extra bases as the Spartans topped Milford 6-1 at Meier Field.
Luke Landrus crashed a home run and drove in three runs. Nolan Earley, Tanner Jacob and Coy Taylor all belted triples. Contributing doubles were Charles Voorhees and Braxton Waller.
Taylor led the Spartans with two hits. Landrus tallied two runs.
Jack Robertson allowed two hits in 5 1/3 innings and earned the win. He walked four and struck out 10 batters. Voorhees worked 1 2/3 hitless innings and registered two strikeouts.
On Monday (May 1), SJ-O lost its first Illini Prairie Conference baseball game when it dropped an 11-6 decision at Monticello.
Connor Hale was the hard-luck loser. He pitched three innings and gave up seven runs, but none of them were earned. He walked three and struck out four.
Robertson belted two doubles and scored two runs to lead SJ-O offensively. Waller delivered two hits and drove in three runs.
SJ-O (22-6) is 7-1 in Illini Prairie Conference games. The Spartans return to action on Thursday (May 4) at home against Tolono Unity.
