Heritage 3,200 team wins at Lincoln Prairie Conference boys’ track and field meet

Heritage High School’s 3,200-meter relay team cruised to victory on Friday (May 5) in the Lincoln Prairie Conference boys’ track and field meet at Arthur-Lovington.
The foursome consisted of junior Aidan Ashbrook, junior Cohen Sands, senior Rowan Denmark-Collins and junior Zach Ruwe.
The covered the eight-lap event in 9 minutes, 20.30 seconds and held an edge of 19.66 seconds over the runner-up.
Those same four runners also competed in the 1,600-meter relay and finished seventh in 3:58.60.
One of the Hawks’ other relays secured a top-10 finish at the conference meet. The 400-meter unit of Robert Holloman, Rylan White, Aaron Coffin and Destin Nickle placed ninth in 54.70 seconds.
Heritage totaled 21 points and came in eighth in the team standings. The meet champion was Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond with 104 points. Runner-up Villa Grove totaled 98 points.
Six Heritage runners and one field events competitor also carved out top-10 individual finishes.
The team leaders were Denmark Collins (third in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:10.20) and Ruwe (fourth in the 800 meters in 2:10.67).
Other personal bests were registered by Joshua Stierwalt (seventh in the 3,200 meters in 12:55.75) and Ashbrook (eighth in the 400 meters in 52.67 seconds).
The Hawks’ other top placers were Holloman (seventh in the discus at 102 feet), Denmark-Collins (eighth in the 1,600 meters in 5:24.82) and Timmy Wilson (ninth in the 100 meters in 12.55).
Heritage will return to action on Wednesday (May 10) at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
