Tiernan’s home run helps put Comet baseball over St. Thomas More

Travis Tiernan hit a home run on Thursday (May 4) as the Oakwood baseball team registered a 9-7 non-conference win at St. Thomas More.
Tiernan drove in four runs.
Joshua Ruch finished with two hits and scored two runs. Bryson Marcinko also tallied two runs.
Alec Harrison pitched four innings and picked up the win. He walked seven and struck out three batters. Grant Powell pitched a scoreless seventh inning and registered a save.
On Friday (May 5), the Comets pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning and edged Westville, 4-3, in a Vermilion Valley Conference game between schools that started the day undefeated in league play.
Tiernan (8-0) pitched three innings of two-hit relief and collected the win. He walked one and struck out three while working an eighth consecutive appearance without yielding an earned run.
Dalton Hobick, who pitched the first four innings, laced three doubles and scored two runs to spark the Oakwood offense.
Tiernan belted two hits and hammered a home run for the second game in a row. His two-out blast in the top of the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and accounted for the game’s final run.
Derek Drews also scored a run for the Comets. Brody Taflinger (two) and Ruch (one) landed the other Oakwood hits.
Oakwood (20-6-1) returns to action on Monday (May 8) at home against Georgetown-Ridge Farm. A win will clinch at outright VVC crown for the Comets.
