Goldenstein, Miller qualify for IESA Class 1A girls’ seventh-grade track and field meet in two events

Greta Goldenstein and Atleigh Miller both qualified for the IESA Class 1A girls’ seventh-grade track and field meet in two events.
They advanced after their performances on Saturday (May 6) in the Rantoul Sectional.
Goldenstein was a two-event champion, winning the discus (personal-best 90 feet 11 inches) and the shot put (25 feet, 7 ¼ inches).
Miller prevailed in the long jump (13 feet, 2 ½ inches) and ended second in the 100 meters (13.75 seconds).
Teammate Grace Bressner won the 400 meters (personal-best 1 minute, 7.27 seconds).
Also reaching state was PVO’s 400-meter relay foursome of Bressner, Bella Frerichs, Kellyn Irwin and Miller. They took second at the sectional in 59.01 seconds.
Winners in all 14 events qualified for state as did others who met pre-determined times or distances.
In seven other events, PVO athletes notched personal-best performances: Bressner (second in the 800 meters in 2:56.18 and fifth in the 100 meters in 14.64 seconds), Allie Bott (fourth in the 800 meters in 3:00.53), Frerichs (fourth in the high jump at 4 feet), Kelsie Harms (fifth in the high jump at 3 feet, 11 inches and eighth in the 800 meters in 1:16.62) and Irwin (10th in the 200 meters in 32.44 seconds).
Three other PVO athletes wound up in second place in their individual events: Bott (1,600 meters in 6:24.62), Miller (100-meter hurdles in 19.26 seconds) and Korrine Travis (shot put at 24 feet, 9 inches).
The team’s other top-10 performers were: Travis (fourth in the discus at 64 feet, 11 inches), Frerichs (fifth in the 1,600 meters in 7:24.16), Irwin (sixth in the long jump at 11 feet, 11 inches), and Sydney Abernathy (ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.59 seconds).
Two PVO relays ended in third place.
The 1,600-meter foursome featured Frerichs, Harms, Irwin and Bott. Their combined time was 5:17.62.
Handling the baton on the 800-meter relay were Makayla Hesterburg, Alyssa Osterbur, Travis and Leah Pruitt. They crossed the finish line in 2:27.65.

PVO’s eighth-grade team did not produce any state-qualifiers, but secured personal-best performances in seven events.
The team leaders were: Olivia Berlatsky (third in the 100-meter hurdles in 20.09 seconds), Korrine Travis (third in the 800 meters in 3:41.32), Makayla Hesterburg (fourth in the discus at 57 feet, 11 inches), sixth in the 400 meters in 1:19.95), Allie Marschke (sixth in the 1,600 meters in 7:45.27 and 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in 24.08 second) and Ella Mohr (10th in the 100 meters in 15.83 seconds).
Top finishers for the PVO seventh-graders were Leah Pruitt (second in the discus at 62 feet) and the 400-meter relay grouping of Kelsie Harms, Berlatsky, Anna Hammond and Mohr). They ended second in 1:01.49.
PVO had five other field-event entrants place among the top 10.
Berlatsky was third in the high jump (3 feet 11 inches), Mohr was fourth in the shot put (22 feet, 9 ½ inches), Hammond was fifth in the long jump (11 feet, 10 inches), Pruitt was fifth in the shot put (22 feet, 6 ½ inches) and Berlatsky tied for ninth in the long jump (10 feet, 2 ½ inches).
Hammond collected a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (32.51 seconds) and a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters (15.16 seconds).
Madison Alsip ran fifth in the 1,600 meters (7:32.70).
PVO had one other relay which wound up in third place. The 800-meter unit of Sydney Abernathy, Alsip, Chloe Ninder and Allie Marschke was timed in 2:39.98.
