Hawk’s 400-meter relay finishes third at Rantoul Sectional, qualifies for State

Heritage’s seventh-grade 400-meter relay qualified for the IESA Class 1A girls’ track and field state meet after a third-place finish in the Rantoul Sectional.

The foursome of Willa Tatman, Reaghan Stierwalt, Leah DelRossi and Ryann McComas was timed in 59.34 seconds.

McComas, a sixth-grader, placed second in the 400 meters (1:08.74), third in the 100 meters (14.67 seconds) and fifth in the 200 meters (31.59 seconds).

Kalyn Miller and Rylan Stierwalt also secured top-10 placements in two events.

Miller was sixth in the discus (personal-best 60 feet, 8 inches) and eighth in the shot put (20 feet, 9 inches).

Stierwalt was eighth in both the 800 meters (personal-best 3:09.95) and the 1,600 meters (personal-best 6:50.05).

Teammates who ended among the top 10 individually at sectional were DelRossi (sixth in the 800 meters with a personal-best 3:06.53), Reaghan Stierwalt (seventh in the 200 meters with a personal-best 32.66 seconds) and Peyton Curry-Varner (ninth in the shot put with a personal-best 20 feet, 8 ¾ inches).

The Class 1A state meet will be held at the EastSide Centre, in East Peoria, on Friday (May 12) and Saturday (May 13).

Addison Hopper was the individual leader for the Heritage girls’ eighth-grade team.

She placed eighth in the 200 meters (33.44 seconds) and ninth in the 100 meters (personal-best 15.87 seconds).

She was also a member of the school’s third-place, eighth-grade 1,600-meter relay.

She teamed up with Willa Tatman, Reaghan Stierwalt and Leah DelRossi for a time of 5:09.66.
