By Fred Kroner

Scoring points in four events, the Prairieview Ogden seventh-grade girls’ track and field team finished fourth at state in the IESA Class 1A finals on Saturday (May 13).

PVO ended with 22 points in a meet held at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.

Atleigh Miller was the individual leader, capturing second place in the long jump, tying her personal-best set a week earlier at the sectional at 15 feet, 8 ¾ inches. Miller added a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters.

She was timed at 13.61 in the prelims and ran a 13.86 in the finals.

Miller was also on the third-place 400-meter relay, joining Grace Bressner, Bella Frerichs and Kellyn Irwin. Their combined time was 56.32 seconds, which beat the previous Class 1A state record and now ranks as third all-time in 1A.

The relay had qualified for state with Ella Mohr filling in for Miller.

Greta Goldenstein took sixth at state for the Mustangs in the discus (78 feet, 11 inches) and was also 11th in the shot put (24 feet, 6 inches).

Bressner was the other team leader, running 10th in the 400 meters (1:08.48).
