Nathan Young wins IESA Class 2A high jump title

Oakwood seventh-grader Nathan Young won the IESA Class 2A seventh-grade high jump state title on Saturday (May 13) in the boys’ track and field finals at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Young cleared 5 feet 7 inches, setting a state record in the process.
Young was 14th in the 200 meters (26.78 seconds).
Oakwood ended in a tie for 22nd at state with 10 points.
Teammate Jaethan Perez secured two top-10 finishes.
Perez was ninth in the long jump (16 feet, 8 inches) and 10th in the 200 meters (26.56 seconds).
The school’s 800-meter relay came in ninth, in 1:53.03. Teaming up on the relay were Perez, Westen Frazier, Riglee Hart and Young.

Oakwood eighth-grader Carsen Dudley was a top-10 placer in two IESA Class 2A events at the boys’ track and field state meet on Saturday (May 13) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Dudley cleared 5 feet, 5 inches and took fifth in the high jump, an event with 21 competitors. He also annexed a 10th-place finish in the shot put, with a toss of 41 feet, 8 inches.
Teammate Walker Enos ended 23rd in the discus competition (82 feet, 10 inches).
Oakwood’s other state entry was its 800-meter relay unit, which placed 17th in 1:45.53. The relay runners were Dudley, Trevor Hanner, Kyler Johnson and Cale Thomas.
In the eighth-grade team standings, Oakwood ended in a tie for 38th with four points.
