Oakwood athletes record personal bests at News-Gazette Honor Roll boys’ track and field meet

Three Oakwood athletes achieved their personal-best times on Monday (May 15) while competing in the 40th-annual News-Gazette Honor Roll boys’ track and field meet at Urbana’s McKinley Field.
Thomas Wells, the runner-up in the open 1,600-meter race, was clocked in 4 minutes, 55.45 seconds.
Connor Smith took second in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 51.80 seconds. Smith also placed fourth in the 200 meters (24.11 second).
The other personal-best mark was established by triple-jumper Bryson McDaniel, who was second at 40 feet, 3 inches. McDaniel notched a fifth-place finish in the long jump (18 feet, 8 inches).
Oakwood’s other Honor Roll competitor was triple-jumper Sailer Harrison, who ended seventh at 37 feet, 5 inches.
The meet was the final tune-up for the Comets before they participate in the 18-school Westville Class 1A Sectional on Friday (May 19).
