The Heritage duo of seniors Drew Williams and Joel Bear finished 10th in the IHSA bass fishing state tournament, which ended on Saturday (May 20) at Lake Carlyle.
They caught four fish that were weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. All of their catches occurred during the Friday (May 19) round and had the Hawks’ duo in sixth place at the tournament’s halfway mark.
There were a total of 50 two-person teams competing in the one-class state tournament. Williams and Bear were among 18 teams that were unable to catch any bass on the second day of the tournament.
The team title was claimed by Teutopolis, which weighed in six fish totaling 19 pounds, 3 ounces.
A year ago, Williams and Bear finished sixth at state. As a sophomore, Williams was part of a team that took 19th at state.
