Vivian Smith places fourth in discus at IESA girls’ Class 3A state track and field meet

Seventh-grader Vivian Smith placed fourth in the discus for St. Joseph in the IESA girls’ Class 3A state track and field meet, which ended on Saturday (May 20) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Smith’s top mark was 84 feet, 2 inches. She was one of 17 competitors in the seventh-grade discus.
She was the lone Panther to place at state.
The five points that she scored enabled St. Joseph to finish in 34 place at state. A total of 55 teams scored points.
The seventh-grade girls’ state champion was Manteno with 28 points.
St. Joseph had two other eighth-graders who competed at state and both ran the 800 meters.
Tessa Walker finished in 15th place (2:40.14) and Avarie Dietiker was 18th (2:42.66).

St. Joseph’s lone entry in the girls’ eighth-grade portion of the IESA Class 3A state track and field meet was its 1,600-meter relay.
The foursome of Kiah Riesel, Faith Jackson, Lilly Ahart and Abi Crider wound up in 14th place. Their combined time was 4:34.12.
The girls’ eighth-grade team champion, with 51 points, was Eureka.
