Wagner and Jones finish strong at ESA Class 3A eighth-grade boys’ track and field state meet

Cam Wagner and Waylon Jones each secured two top-12 finishes for St. Joseph in the IESA Class 3A eighth-grade boys’ track and field state meet, which ended on Saturday (May 20) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Wagner placed seventh in a field of 26 competitors in the discus (136 feet, 4 inches) and took ninth in the shot put (42 feet, 5 inches).
Jones landed 10th in the long jump (personal-best 18 feet) and wound up 12th in the 800 meters (56.57 seconds).
Two of their classmates competed at state.
Willis Canamore wound up ninth in the discus (134 feet, 6 inches) and Gunnar George ended 16th in the 100 meters (12.32 seconds).
St. Joseph tied for 44th place in the team standings with two points. Pekin Edison won the team title with 38 points.
