Spartans tie for fifth at 17-team golf scramble in Danville

St. Joseph-Ogden ended in a fifth-place tie in a 17-school season-opening boys’ golf scramble on Thursday (Aug. 10) at Harrison Park, in Danville.
Representing the Spartans were Ashton Cafarelli, Talan Miller, Devin Swisher, Asher Pruemer and Trevor Ames.
The composite SJ-O score was 65, which was just three shots behind runner-up Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
Meet champion St. Thomas More posted a 58. Following B-H/R-A (62) were Dwight (63) and Iroquois West (64).
Joining the Spartans in a tie for fifth were Arcola/Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and Urbana.
On Friday (Aug. 11), Cafarelli fired a 38 and tied for third individually in the 10-team Ron Schaede Memorial Tournament at the UI Blue Course.
The Spartans had a 177 team composite and placed sixth. Team champion Bloomington totaled a 157.
Other SJ-O competitors were Pruemer (43), Ty Buss (45), Swisher (51), Miller (52) and Garrett Loschen (57).
SJ-O will return to action on Monday (Aug. 14) at the Urbana Tiger Kickoff Classic at the Urbana Country Club.
