Mustangs open baseball season with win over Chrisman

Lucas Waters, Lane McKinney, Jameson Ehler and Casen Goff all scored three runs on Thursday (Aug.10) as the Prairieview Ogden Junior High baseball team opened its season with a 17-5 win at Chrisman.
PVO plated six runs in the top of the first inning, with Lane McKinney, Wyatt McKinney and Logan Wedig all driving in runs. Wyatt McKinney and Wedig delivered RBIs in the second inning as PVO expanded its lead to 9-0.
Ehler, Wyatt McKinney and Wedig collected two hits apiece. Wyatt McKinney and Wedig both recorded three RBI. Ehler and Jebb Aden each knocked in two runs.
Ehler pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five batters and walking no one, and earned the win. He was followed to the mound by Cale Ackerman, Aden and Lane McKinney.
PVO was successful on 11 of 11 stolen base attempts. Waters swiped three bases. Ehler and Goff each stole two bases.
On Saturday (Aug. 12), the Mustangs split a doubleheader, whipping Hoopeston Area 11-2, but falling to Champaign Edison, 11-1, in a game where the team had no hits.
Against Hoopeston, Ehler, Goff and Wyatt McKinney all knocked in two runs. Ehler tallied three runs and worked three scoreless innings on the mound to register the win. He fanned four hitters.
Against Edison, Goff drove in Wedig with the lone PVO run. Wedig also stole a base and had a 1 2/3-inning pitching stint where he struck out five hitters.
On Tuesday (Aug 15), Loschen’s three-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning rallied PVO past visiting Salt Fork, 9-7.
Loschen cracked two hits. Wedig and Lane McKinney also stroked two hits. Wedig tallied two runs.
Loschen picked up the win in relief of Lane McKinney. Loschen threw the final 1 1/3 innings.
PVO has a 3-1 season record.
