Oakwood defeats Schlarman Academy, Hoopeston and Hutsonville

Lainee Smith collected two hits and drove in six runs on Thursday (Aug. 17) as Oakwood overpowered Schlarman Academy, 11-1, in a junior high softball game.
Teammates Chloe Vinson and Ireland Harrison each socked doubles for the Comets. Ashtyn Daily struck out nine batters and earned the pitching win.
Britynn Atwood, Daily, Smith and Avery Trimmell all scored two runs.
Oakwood’s other wins were 6-0 at home over Hoopeston Area on Thursday (Aug. 10) and 5-3 over Hutsonville at Casey on Saturday (Aug. 5).
Daily registered 12 strikeouts in the shutout over Hoopeston and scored two runs. Smith produced two RBI. Against Hutsonville, Trimmell tallied two runs. Scoring once apiece were Atwood, Smith and Keelie Moore.
The team’s losses were 4-2 to Salt Fork on Monday (Aug. 14), 10-9 to Bismarck-Henning on Tuesday (Aug. 8), 10-0 to Casey-Westfield on Saturday (Aug. 5) and 7-2 to St. Joseph on Thursday (Aug. 3).
Chloe Vinson and Ainsley Lyons drove in runs against Salt Fork. Atwood and Dailey scored the runs. Vinson and Atwood each crossed home plate twice against B-H. Against St. Joseph, Dailey and Smith scored runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Oakwood (3-4) is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (Aug. 29) at Gifford.
