SJO girls’ cross country finishes third at Doc Acklin Invite

Two St. Joseph-Ogden athletes finished among the top 10 runners on Saturday (Aug. 26) in the team’s season-opening girls’ cross-country meet, the Doc Acklin Memorial at Paris.
Junior Savanna Franzen took fourth in a field of 89 competitors. Her 3-mile time was 20 minutes, 16.2 seconds. Senior teammate Chloe Burkhalter was eighth in 21:15.7.
Other team leaders were Hannah Mock (33rd in 24:55.0), Kiah Riesel (34th in 25:02.0) and Sydney Steinbach (38th in 25:20.4).
Effingham captured the team crown in the 11-school field with 31 points. Runner-up Marshall had 56 points and third-place SJ-O totaled 107 points.
SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 2) in the Cowchip Classic at Chrisman.
