St. Joseph-Ogden soccer begins season with four wins

The St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team is off to a 4-0 start this season.
The Spartans won their opener on Friday (Aug. 25) at Hoopeston Area, 4-2, and followed with wins over Iroquois West, 9-2, on Saturday (Aug. 26), Schlarman Academy, 9-0, on Monday (Aug. 28) and Meridian, 9-0, on Wednesday (Aug. 30).
The lone home match to date at Dick Duval Field was the victory over Iroquois West.
Alex Accosta netted two goals and Logan Mills and Spencer Wilson had one apiece against Hoopeston. Acosta, Mills, Zach Harper and Tyler Hess each had one assist.
Goalkeeper Jacek Slowikowski recorded nine saves.
Acosta registered a hat trick against Iroquois West. In addition to his three goals, Wilson and Quinn Stahl each had two goals. Harper and Mills contributed one goal.
Harper assisted on two scores. Adding one assist apiece were Nicholas Harris, Harper, Waylon Jones and Steven Newman.
Jackson Colvin posted one save.
Harper and Mills each notched hat tricks at Schlarman. Mills tallied four goals and Harper went off for three. Acosta made the other two goals.
Harper also collected three assists. Mills had two and Acosta one.
Slowikowski had five saves in his first shutout of the year.
Against Meridian, Acosta scored three goals and teammates Mills and Wilson contributed two goals each. Harper and Newman made one goal apiece.
The assists were by Will Besson, Harper and Carter Turner, one apiece.
Slowikowski stopped two shots in his second consecutive shutout.
SJ-O (4-0) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 31) at Argenta-Oreana.
