Mustangs head into Regional play on 4-game win streak

Prairieview Ogden finished the regular season with a four-game winning streak, including three wins in five days.

PVO won at Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 17-2, on Thursday (Sept. 7) and at Armstrong-Potomac, 18-6, on Friday (Sept. 8) before closing out the season at home with a 16-0 shutout over Heritage on Monday (Sept. 11).

Against G-RF, Cale Ackerman struck out five batters in three innings and earned the win with last-inning relief help from Jebb Aden, who notched two strikeouts.

Logan Wedig and Jameson Ehler tallied three runs apiece. Scoring twice were Lane McKinney, Lucas Waters, George Hale and Kavin Van Etta.

Casen Goff drove in three runs. McKinney collected two RBI.

The Mustangs grabbed a 10-0 first-inning lead.

Against Armstrong-Potomac, McKinney turned in a 4-for-4 performance that included four runs scored.

Ehler tallied three runs. Crossing home plate twice each were Wedig, Goff, Van Etta and Waters.

Van Etta allowed one hit in three innings and fanned six hitters.

He was backed by an offense that scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Against Heritage, Wedig and Aden combined for a no-hitter. Wedig struck out four in two innings. Aden recorded one strikeout.

The lone Heritage baserunner was courtesy of a walk.

McKinney and Ehler each swatted two hits. Ehler collected three RBI, marking his ninth successive game driving in at least one run.

Scoring two runs apiece were Wedig, McKinney, Ehler, Goff, Waters and Hale.

PVO carries a 12-2 record into the postseason.

In an IESA Class 1A tournament game that is part of the Champaign St. Matthew Regional on Wednesday (Sept. 13), second-seeded PVO will face seventh-seeded Heritage at home.
