Oakwood baseball finishes regular season on a high note

Xavier Wilson played the starring role in the field and at the plate on Wednesday (Sept. 6) as Oakwood earned a 12-0 victory in a junior high baseball game at Rossville-Alvin.
Wilson socked a double and a home run – his third homer in the past four games – and also pitched a two-hit shutout, walking no one and striking out seven in four innings.
Wilson and Riglee Hart each had two RBI. Wilson and Weston Frazier each tallied three runs. Rourke Harrison scored twice.
On Tuesday (Sept. 5), Nathan Young fired a three-inning no-hitter at home against Georgetown-Ridge Farm in a 17-1 triumph.
He allowed an unearned run in the first inning, walked one batter and fanned four.
Frazier and Wilson both contributed three hits, three runs and three RBI. Young delivered two hits. He crossed home plate twice as did teammates Hart, Harrison and Lane Stitt.
Drake Roberts batted in two runs.
On Thursday (Sept. 7), Keaton Pratt fired a one-hitter and struck out 12 batters in a 12-0 victory at Heritage. Pratt issued one walk in the team’s second shutout in as many days.
Wilson’s two hits included a double and a triple. He scored three runs as did Frazier. Hart and Young each tallied two runs. Hart delivered two RBI.
On Monday (Sept. 11), Oakwood clubbed Chrisman 12-4 at home in a game in which it stole 17 bases for the night.
Frazier swiped five bases. Hart stole four bases. Young and Jathan Perez each stole three bases.
Perez’s double was the team’s lone extra-base hit.
Frazier and Hart each scored three runs. Perez, Young and Wilson tallied two runs apiece. Hart drilled two hits. He had two RBI as did Wilson.
Young pitched two hitless innings, striking out three and earned the win. Frazier worked the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out three batters.
Oakwood ends the regular season with a 6-6 overall record.
The Knights open the postseason with a Class 2A IESA regional tournament game on Wednesday (Sept. 13) at fourth-seeded Fisher. Oakwood is the No. 5 seed.
The winner will play top-seeded St. Joseph on Saturday (Sept. 16).
