Wells wins Vermilion Valley Conference meet

Thomas Wells was the individual champion on Tuesday (Sept. 12) in the 27-runner Vermilion Valley Conference boys’ cross-country meet at Kickapoo State Park, leading the Oakwood/Salt Fork Comets to the team title.
Wells ran the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 27.27 seconds. Wells had a 7.98-second margin of victory.
Teammate Brayden Edwards also earned all-conference laurels, placing third in 19:22.91.
The Comets’ other scoring runners were Logan Henthorn (11th in 20:44.93), Ben Darling (12th in 20:45.45) and Alex Wells (16th in 21:28.32).
Oakwood/Salt Fork’s cumulative team score was 28 points. Runner-up Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm had 42 points. Third-place Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin ended with 52 points.
The Comets will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 16) in the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational at Detweiller Park.
