Maroon wins Richard Spring Invitational

Senior Carson Maroon, from St. Joseph-Ogden, was the individual winner on Saturday (Sept. 16) in the open race at the 62-school Richard Spring boys’ cross-country invitational at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
Maroon ran the 3-mile race in 15 minutes, 57.70 seconds. One other teammate – Adan Armstrong – placed 10th in a race with 573 runners in 16:19.30.
They were the only two SJ-O entries in the open race.
In the 376-runner freshmen-sophomore race, Lance Retz finished 33rd in 16:11.30. Teammates trailing him were Nate Farney (112th in 17:11.70), Colin Burnett (120th in 17:15.80) and Cyrus Zaden (336th in 20:51.10).
In the varsity race, the Spartans ended in 59th place with a team cumulative of 1,594 points. Meet champion Hersey had a team tally of 127 points.
Jack Fisher posted the Spartans’ top time (16:00.30) and took 161st in a race with 570 participants.
Other SJ-O entries were Mason Guido (280th in 16:45.00), Joe Griebat (402nd in 17:35.10), Holden Jones (426th in 17:47.00) and E.J. Beckett (553rd in 20:02.50).
SJ-O will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 23) in the 51st Spartan Classic in St. Joseph.
