Oakwood baseball meets its match in IESA Class 2A Regional semifinal

Oakwood’s late-season winning streak came to an end on Saturday (Sept. 16) with a loss to top-seeded St. Joseph, 9-2, in a semifinal game of the IESA Class 2A regional at St. Joseph.
The Knights, seeded fifth, took a five-game winning streak into the finals.
Xander Wilson had two of Oakwood’s three hits, including a triple. Riglee Hart swatted the team’s other hit. Wilson and Weston Frazier each scored runs.
Wilson had an RBI for the eighth game in a row. He also stole two bases.
Wilson was also the starting pitcher, took the loss. In Two innings, he surrendered four walks and struck out three hitters.
Hart worked the final four innings, yielding just one earned run while walking one and fanning five batters.
Oakwood finishes the season with a 7-7 record.
The team’s top batters were Wilson (.500), Frazier (.393) and Hart (.359). The leaders in stolen bases were Frazier (20), Wilson (18), Hart (16) and Nathan Young (10).
Wilson led in runs scored (28) and RBI (21). Frazier scored 23 runs and Hart knocked in 14.
Among pitchers, the leaders in wins were Wilson (3-2), Young (3-2) and Keaton Pratt (1-0).
Wilson recorded 39 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings. Hart totaled 19 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings.
