Oakwood/Salt Fork pick up sixth shutout of the 2023 season

The Oakwood/Sat Fork soccer team posted its sixth shutout of the season – and second in a row – on Monday (Sept. 16) in a 7-0 win over St. Thomas More, in Champaign.
Ethan Merritt hit two goals and Brody Taflinger contributed three assists in the non-conference triumph.
Thomas Wells and Macen Phillips each had both a goal and an assist.
Other goal-scorers for the Comets were Jacob Pricer, Derek Drews and Tucker Pesek.
Grant Brewer recorded one keeper save.
Oakwood/Salt Fork held a 26-4 edge in total shots.
On Tuesday (Sept. 19), Oakwood/Salt Fork outscored Watseka, 5-2, at home with five different players scoring goals.
Cooper Myers, Merritt, Ty Smoot, Pricer and Phillips all found the back of the net.
Assisting the goal-scorers were Taflinger twice, Phillips and Merritt.
Brewer collected four saves.
Oakwood/Salt Fork held a 23-9 edge in total shots.
The Comets (8-6-1) return to action on Thursday (Sept. 21) at Hoopeston Area.
